Double, Triple Check Every Email, Every Time
- Odd Sender: [email protected] is clearly a fake email and should not be trusted at first sight.
- If the email doesn’t, at the very least, end with walmart.com, it should not be trusted.
- For example, Century Business Products’ URL and domain is cbpnow.com. Emails from @cbpnow.com can be trusted. Anything else should be approached with caution.
- Fishy Subject: No personal note, not even your name? Unless it was a mass gift card to all employees, that’s unlikely. No sender name should also be a cause for concern.
- Clock’s Ticking: “You have 24 hours to accept the gift card or it will pass to the next employee. Redeem it now!” That’s no way to treat one’s employees. But it is a way to trick employees into making a mistake.
- Inconsistent Language: In the header and the body text, it says $250, but the gift card image says $300. Mistakes like that, including spelling, should always raise alarms in your head.
